With Heavy Hearts- A Time to Act

There are no words for the events yesterday at Sandy Hook Elementary. While we hang our heavy heads and hearts, pray and grieve for our lost angels and their families, it is truly a time to act. This country is in dire need of action and gun reform. Let’s follow our fellow friendly nations’ leads, like Australia, and place some stringent laws into action to avoid this type of atrocity in the future. We must protect our innocents and ourselves- it’s time to take care of our own, not cowtow to power and politicking. If you are in favor of gun reform, please sign this White House petition, in order to get the administration to act on gun reform legislation. It’s time to stop talking about this and start acting. Enough is enough.

This New Yorker article is worth a read for a perspective on how the world views us.

Yesterday was the first day I actually had the thought of wanting to move to another country, not for the sense of adventure and experience, but for the safety of my children. As a mother and as a citizen, I am outraged. Let’s do something about this.

Thank you for this post. I live in the community effected by this horrific tragedy. Driving around town has been surreal. I dont have children of my own, but we are ALL changed. What will it take to implement change? The loss of these poor, innocent souls is too great for words. These are children whom I’ve given a push on the swings, gotten their ball out of the street, wiped their dripping noses. I don’t know all of their faces and names but I know that the silence here is deafening. We already miss their giggles and chatter. How can our country continue to allow these weapons to be available to people who just have no business owning them? Its a sad world and our schools really need to be locked. I was enraged when I found out a local town had sent out an email saying they did not feel the need to go into lockdown, all while the public was still told a second shooter was out there somewhere. All lockdown consists of is locking the school and refusing entrance. Would that have been so difficult? I’m sorry this is lengthy, but I think we all have something to say about this. Whether you live 5 minutes away, or across the country, this proves no community is immune to such terror. The laws have to change.
