Present-ing: The Glamour Puss
Happy Weekend!
Happy Weekend dear readers. These Kate Spade cards are rocking my world. If I didn’t do holiday photo cards, I would have these little beauties addressed and ready to send- seriously stylish and fun! I hope you all enjoyed a warm and blessed Thanksgiving. We are laying low this weekend after all that cooking and holiday hoopla. We might try to catch a showing of Catching Fire, I hear it’s pretty good, have you seen it? Do tell. What are you all up to this weekend? Black Friday anyone? I can’t bring myself to do it although I am curious.[…]
How to make the world’s juiciest turkey- for real ya’ll
Stop the Press! If your Thanksgiving turkey recipe is not set in stone and you still have time to hoof it to the gourmet grocer- THIS is your recipe, dear readers. Let’s not kid ourselves, do you really look forward to the turkey at Thanksgiving? I don’t. It’s usually bland, tasteless and a dry disappoint. (cue the wah-wah sound effect) Its only benefit- that late afternoon visit from the tryptophan man that puts me in a hazy fog for the rest of the day, which I quite like after all the morning mayhem. My hubby and I took a class at[…]
Old School Texas Cornbread Stuffing
This is the real deal, folks. Gen-u-wine old school Texas cornbread dressing. Notice I say dressing and not stuffing. This is meant to compliment your bird not get stuck inside it only to dry it out. Don’t be a victim of ye olde stuffing, make it a side dish- it doesn’t do anybody any good inside that bird. Trust me. We have been making this recipe in my family for decades. It officially started with my great grandmother, at least that’s when it was documented. We do NOT add meat to this as for me, the turkey’s the thing. More[…]
Five Fantastic Thanksgiving Wines
What to drink with that delectable bird? And yes, it can actually be juicy and delicious, not just a dry and bland holiday tradition, but more on that tomorrow. Back to the task at hand- picking that perfect wine to serve with your bird. If you’re anything like me- procrastinator extraordinaire- you haven’t done your wine shopping yet, so here are your best bets. If you can’t locate these producers, ask your trusty wine shop merchant for some suggestions in these regions. 1. Cru Beaujolais. Yes, I said it. Beaujolais. I know it gets a bad rap, but it’s mostly[…]
Presenting: The Cook
Not for every cook, but definitely for the one with a nostalgic soft spot- a vintage cookbook. I love this Sunset Cookbook circa 1949. The classic cook’s reference guide: Larousse Gastronomique. Every self-respecting cook needs a copy of this one their shelf. For the foam loving, liquid nitrogen dreaming cooks, Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking- tales and recipes from the most creative chefs on the planet. A cute and efficient way to store your plastic wrap: ChicWrap. I totally want one of these. With the serrated edge at the top, it makes cutting those sheets so much[…]
Happy Weekend!
It is a heartfelt day in our nation. It’s truly hard to believe that 50 years ago, we lost our President Kennedy. I love this photo of the glamorous First Couple- so filled with hope, youth, and that fabulous toothy grin. To think how our world changed with the loss of this President is truly mind-blowing- if you haven’t seen the excellent documentary, The Fog of War, treat yourself and imagine how things may have been very different. On to sunshinier things- I’m off on a solo road trip to visit my dear pal Lisa Shriver- Broadway choreographer extraordinaire- down[…]
Light It Up
I am on the constant search for great (and affordable) lighting. Here are a few favorites as of late. Check out my Pinterest board dedicated to all things illuminated and beautiful. Brass is back in a big way so most of these fixtures are of that golden metal. Schoolhouse Electric Isaac 7 Natural Brass Chandelier: simple, modern and elegant. I love the wax matte finish. Dutton Brown Gold Urchin Chandelier: an amazing price and a fun take on the mid-century Sputnik classic. Related posts:Five Groovy ThingsHappy Weekend!Friday Find
