The Balancing Act

the balancing act

Can you believe this picture? Isn’t it one of the greatest images- talk about Super Mom. This is my awesome friend Natalia- mom, doctor, crafter extraordinaire and all-around awesome lady. A mutual friend of ours who works as a photo director had this photo on her desktop at work, and a colleague asked if it was for a shoot she was working on. Nope, just a day in the life of our fab friend, Natalia. Since I am currently experiencing a little bit of bewilderment over what has all of a sudden materialized as a complete and total lack of[…]

Happy Weekend

happyweekend

Happy Weekend dear readers. Please excuse my radio silence as of late. A friend and neighbor of ours passed away this week suddenly of natural causes. He was young and vibrant, only 41, and leaves behind his wife and 4 year-old daughter. It has been a sad and heartbreaking week and I have not had the inspiration to muster up much else. I always find it to be so surreal when a sudden passing happens. Death is always hard to deal with no matter what form it comes in, but the lack of closure confuses the heart and mind. My[…]

Presenting: The Kiddo

LEGO 10243 Parisian Restaurant Lego is unveiling an unbelievably beautiful Parisian restaurant. It’s true the foodie craze has hit the littles. If you’re into food, it’s likely your bambini are too, they’ll love this. This one isn’t exactly FOR the kiddo in so much as they will react like —- did when he opened his Aunt’s bunny suite pajamas, but it is cute for their room or playroom and they may grow to appreciate its aesthetic simplicity. Ha. Orange Striped Basket Uncle Goose blocks handmade in Michigan are not only my favorite blocks for my own kiddos (p.s.: they love[…]

Volatize This: Winter Weather Syrah

Tasting Note: Anthill Farms Syrah

The weather turned crisp and positively cool this past weekend, so I went in for a meaty bottle of wine- Anthill Farms ’10 Syrah. Recommended to me by a number of my Somm pals, this wine did not disappoint. For under $20, it’s one’s a keeper- literally. You could stash this one in the closet for a few years to draw out even more complex notes but at this price, I just went ahead and pulled the cork . Here’s what I got, (this one’s got a lot going on): Made by three rockstar winemakers who met working together at[…]

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee

comedians in cars getting coffee

If you’re anything like me, this will make your freaking day. I’m more than a little late to the party (how have I not seen these!) but better late than never. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to watch old comedians kvetch, it’s really indescribable. I feel the same sort of giddy, warm and fuzzy happiness that I do when sitting front row at a Wayne Newton or Tom Jones concert. Weird? Sure. Again- unexplainable. Is it strange that I would rather go to a Don Rickles show than a Louis CK show. Probably. Hey, what can[…]

Happy Weekend!

happy weekend

Happy Weekend dear readers! Aren’t these leaves gorgeous? I snapped this yesterday on my daily walk through town with the bebes. I love the herringbone-bricked streets and those lavender-tinged leaves. I am really loving fall this year and trying to soak up this beautiful town while I still live here. We recently sold our New York apartment (fingers crossed we will close by the end of the year) and while it is truly a bittersweet farewell from our little piece of the Manhattan pie, there is something satisfying about the resolute choice to plant some serious roots with family. We[…]

Five Groovy Things

five groovy things

Stylish 2D graphic collages by French architect, Alexandre Ciancio? I need one in my house please. Cynthia Rowley leopard slip-on sneakers that look like these Celine beauties, but for $47? Duh. A shawl with a giant eye? A bit pricey for me, but I like its style. Cable knit floppy hat? Check. Newly purchased with a trusty gift card I dusted off from the recesses of my wallet. Sometimes it pays to be unorganized. Handpainted, heavy brushstroked table runners? Yes please. Related posts:Happy Weekend!Happy Weekend!Monday is for Matine
