The Woodland Creature Craze

Woodland Creatures

Strolling by Anthropologie this morning, ok- shopping at Anthropologie this morning- I snapped a few pics of their store window and interior visuals. Woodland creatures seem to have taken over the design world- especially owls. I love owls, but it’s getting ridiculous. Still, they are cute visuals.     Related posts:These Are A Few Of…Happy Weekend! The Art of Creatively Retreating

Present-ing: The Globetrotter’s Gift Guide

The Globetrotter's Gift Guide

1. A classic leather luggage tag for your bags. No more flimsy paper tags that tear off mid-flight. 2. The Analogue Guide Books for London and NYC. More are in the works. Disclaimer: 1/2 of the writing team is a good friend. These books truly guide you to an authentic experience. Sorted by neighborhood as opposed to category (food, drink, etc.), this guide allows you to wander and explore neighborhoods like a local. Find yourself patronizing quaint bookstores (yes, there are still a few), coffee houses, yoga studios, etc., not to mention the biggies (museums, historical sites and the like)[…]

Tartans and Ghillies and Peat Moss- Oh My!

The Scottish Walk

It’s that time of year again in Alexandria when Scots and Scotophiles alike gather to march down King Street in their finest Highland dress- kilts, tartans and ghillies galore. Spectators come out in droves and bring their adorable pooches adorned in their Scottish duds to trot around Old Town. Here is an image of the bagpipers on break, from last weekend’s walk. We almost missed it (I still haven’t quite gotten the hang of a quick and easy departure with the twins) but caught the tail end. It was almost more fun- just the sight of all the kilt-clad folks[…]

Christmastime in Old Town

Old Town Windows

A few shiny windows in Alexandria and a beautiful red door adorned with a pretty wreath. I’m having my wreath delivered tonight by the local Boy Scouts’ troop leader. I love that the Boy Scouts still operate on an honor system- well, of course they do- Scouts Honor. I ordered it at the farmer’s market in October without payment and they deliver it to your door when it arrives- gotta love it. It seems owls are all the rage this year. Who knew owls had it over their fellow woodland friends? I love this pretty window display at our local[…]

Present-ing: Wine Geeky Gifts

Gift Guide- Winos_edited-1

What winos want. Wine geeks love a map. Chances are they’ve had to study them extensively as part of their certification. This map takes the major French wine regions and lays them out like a subway map. Very pleasing to the eye and to the brain, I must say. DeLong, $24.95 This Capabunga reusable rubber wine cap is such a duh. I wish I had thought of it. They come in lots of different silly styles. $6.95/2-pack. Whether your fellow wino has a good nose for wine or not, they’re sure to love this Le Nez du Vin master set. The mack[…]

Time-Lapse Fun

Landings at San Diego Airport

This is just cool. Cy Kuckenbaker (great name, right?) shot footage of all plane landings at the San Diego Airport on Black Friday from 10:30am to 3:00pm. This is his edited time-lapse video of all flights. Related posts:Beethoven Meets the Biebs?Notes from the WeekendTo Boston With Love

Clutch Happy

Clutch Crazy

Tis the season to carry a clutch. Great for gifts or for (ahem) yourself. A few great finds from Clare Vivier, Falconwright and Etsy. P.S.: Etsy is aplenty with great handmade foldover and envelope clutches. The Everyday || The Dazzler || The Audrey Inspired || The Wild One || The Pop of Color Pair your Falconwright clutch with a classic NV Billecart Salmon Rose. Yes, you’ll spend more on the champagne than the clutch, but it’s the holidays- a good reason to splurge on good bubbly, especially when you can get such a stylish clutch so affordably. Vivier avec Vivier. California made by French[…]

Happy Weekend

Braniff Pucci Girl

A few swanky snapshots circa 1973 of my friend, Toni Wellhausen, at the Braniff Hostess College. LOVE the Pucci fight attendant uniforms. Seriously amazing. She had a Halston uniform too but alas, no photos. How fun to saddle up to the baby grand with a dirty martini surrounded by Pucci-clad stewardesses at 35,000 feet.  Those were the days- not that I was around for them- but one can wax nostalgic anyway. Babies in Vegas

Vegas Babies

Don’t judge, I didn’t drag my 6 month old kids across the country so that I could play craps and whoop it up Hangover-style. My mom got married last weekend in Vegas. Wow- that looks pretty wild in print. She did, she got married just outside of Vegas in the Valley of Fire State Park. It. Was. Awesome. One of the best parts about the weekend was bringing the babies to Vegas despite the face that: Las Vegas- not exactly baby friendly. I can’t tell you how many dirty looks I got while wheeling my double stroller through the[…]

These Are A Few Of…

My Favorite Things Nov. 28

I’m a sucker for Hitchcock- the style (which may be more Edith Head than Hitchcock), storytelling and images of his pictures are so memorable and nostalgic. This collection is extensive with 15 movies including the biggies- Psycho, Rear Window and The Birds. Go Macy’s! I love that they commissioned former graffiti artist and current art world darling, KAWS, to design a Companion character balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kind of ballsy Macy’s. Love it. Kir Royale- the perfect little drink. My sister in law, Lauren, reintroduced to me to love of a good kir royale- my new favorite and seriously[…]
